Moira Bette

Moira Bette is a 17 year old senior at New Trier High School. She plays both violin and viola and studies with Desiree Ruhstrat at the Music Institute of Chicago in Winnetka.

She made her viola debut with the Hall School of Music Orchestra in February 2005.
She is currently a member of the American Chamber Strings, Roland Vamos, Conductor, playing viola. In April 2006, she performed in Italy with this orchestra. She is also concertmaster of the New Trier Symphony and Chamber Orchestras, Peter Rosheger, conductor, and performed with the orchestra at Carnegie Hall in April 2006.
She was a member of the Midwest Young Artists Symphony and her MYA quartet reached the semi-finals of the Fischoff Chamber Music Competition in May 2006. The previous 2 years they were quarter finalists.

She has also received numerous honors at competitions for violin and viola,  including an honorable mention at the Walgreen’s Concerto Competition where she performed the Walton Viola Concerto in January 2006. Moira performed in a viola master class with Michael Strauss in February, 2006 and most recently with Pinchas Zukerman in July 2006. She was the 2005 Concerto Competition Winner at New Trier High School, performing the Barber Violin Concerto with the New Trier Symphony.

As a member of the Music Institute’s Zeloso String Quartet, Desiree Ruhstrat, coach, she performed for the French Ambassador during his visit to Chicago in May 2006. Moira attended the Heifetz International Music Institute this summer and her goal is to attend a music conservatory after high school.
