Sharon Chang

Sharon Chang is a third-year undergraduate violinist studying at The Juilliard School.  She has won first prize awards in the Confucius Competition, North Suburban Symphony’s Young Artist Concerto Competition, Nancy Fuqua Memorial Young Artist Competition, as well as in the Niles West Concerto Competition.  She is also a recipient of a Farwell Scholarship from the Musicians Club of Women, and of the Steve S. Kang Young Artists and Scholars Fund.  Other honors have included honorable mention in the Walgreen’s Concerto Competition, Evanston Scholarship Awards, merit award winner in the ARTS awards, and a finalist in the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition.  Sharon has appeared on CBS News as a part of VH1’s “Save the Music” project. 

As the violinist of the piano quartet Praxis, the group was quarter finalist in the Fischoff Chamber Music Competition, the 2nd place winner in the Rembrandt Chamber Competition, played in a master class for the Ahn Trio, performed on 98.7 WFMT’s Impromptu program, and was aired on From The Top – a national radio program featuring the finest of young musicians. 

Sharon has held concertmaster positions in several orchestras, including the District 7 IMEA Orchestra, the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra, and its select Encore Chamber Orchestra.  In addition, she has participated in the professional orchestra Camerata Chicago.  As a soloist, Sharon has performed with several orchestras including North Suburban Symphony, Waukegan Symphony, and Camerata Chicago. 

Sharon has participated in the Encore School for Strings summer program, the Utah Music Festival, National Youth Orchestra Festival, and the Festival International de Musique de Sion-Valais International Violin Competition.

Sharon previously studied with Desiree Ruhstrat at the Music Institute of Chicago, and currently studies with Stephen Clapp.
